The success of fertility therapy is determined first and foremost by the experience of the doctors supervising the treatment and of the laboratory. The team at Fertility Center Berlin has been working together already since 1999 in the same member setup. The doctors had known each other since 1991, and had executed fertility therapy already at the University Women's Hospital of the Free University of Berlin (Pulsstrasse site) and at the hospitals of the German Red Cross in Westend.

What does it take to have a successful fertility treatment centre?

In the beginning of any successful treatment one must have precise diagnostics. It is only thanks to it that one can determine the actual cause of the sterility, and how you can be best helped. The diagnosis covers examinations of the woman, including an ultrasonic contrast scan of the fallopian tubes, hormonal examinations and spermiogram of the patient's life partner. Before commencing the fertility treatment both partners must also undergo testing for HIV as well as hepatitis B and C.

After the examinations the proper course of therapy for you is decided on. We will determine the course of action together with you, and decide whether hormonal stimulation will be enough, whether insemination is necessary or if one needs in vitro fertilisation or ICSI. The chances of having success of treatment depend on many individual factors; one of the important factors is the age of the patient.

The constant transmission of our data to the German In Vitro Fertilisation Register allows constant comparison of the pregnancy rates of Fertility Center Berlin with other centres - the fertility rates at Fertility Center Berlin are decidedly higher than the German average.

Punctions and pregnancy rates at Fertility Center Berlin

Thanks to the introduction of the half cost share after the health system reform of 2004, the punction counts (for IVF and ICSI), which at first dropped heavily, have been, however, continuously rising since 2005, thanks to you, our patients.
The pregnancy rates per embryo transfer had risen from 24% in 1999 to 33,4% in 2008 thanks to new laboratory methods and personal care. Thus they are decidedly higher than the average of the German In Vitro Fertilisation Register (28,8% in 2007).

Pregnancy rates in relation to patient age

The pregnancy rate depends heavily on the age, and from the age of 40 upwards it is also dependant on the number of embryos transferred. Multiple pregnancies are thus very rare, and thus it is our goal to be able to transfer 3 embryos after the patient turns 40.
